Thanks for the post. I do the same with most of my note taking. I rarely revisit my notes but taking them is so helpful for organizing my thoughts and understanding of the topics.

Hi Dr. Raschka,

Do you read on an ipad with an apple pencil? According to me , it is not harmful because reading on an ipad is leading to unconcentration. Reading on macbook and taking notes on a txt file is another way, which may be better than reading on an ipad. But, i still not give a decision for where should I store all my notes for reading later ? I think the best is reading on a printed paper directly

I don't use an iPad but I often read on paper or on my MacBook. It depends a bit. If I want to read something carefully, then I almost always prefer paper. But I read most papers on my MacBook.

Hi Dr. Raschka,

Thank you for your insightful post, particularly the section on "Study & Productivity Tips: Reading a Research Paper." I have a question about your approach. Could you please explain how you use Anki to review and study papers effectively?

Good question! Actually, I don't use Anki to study papers themselves but I use it to retain relevant knowledge from the papers. E.g., if there is an interesting general takeaway that could come in handy in other contexts, I would add that to Anki. However, I would typically not put in a lot of paper-specific info. Because in this case, I think it's not worth the time to remember it; if you need to refer back to the paper-specific information, you can always look up the paper later on. And I think it's important to be selective with information you want to retain, it's like optimizing where to best spend your time.

Btw. if it's helpful, I covered a bit more about my Anki usage in the first Ahead of AI issue here: https://magazine.sebastianraschka.com/p/ahead-of-ai-1-a-diffusion-of-innovations
